About us

Who we are

Who we are

Who we are

The Dallas High Shoals Christian Social Ministry (DCM) was started in 1986 as a Christmas assistance program for the Dallas area. It was evident at that time that there was a definite need that went above just the holiday season. We became a nonprofit organization that is supported by the Dallas Ministerial Association and our local churches.

We serve Gaston County with our focus being on the residents of Dallas, High Shoals, Alexis and Stanley. With donations from our community, Second Harvest Food Bank, and other businesses, we help families in need who live in Gaston County with food and hygiene items. We also partner with the United Way of Gaston County and other businesses to help families in crisis with utility assistance, certain medication needs and Christmas Assistance.

  • Utility assistance: To receive utility assistance you must live in Dallas, High Shoals, Alexis, or Stanley. Clients can only receive help with utilities every six months. Please call the office to make an appointment.

  • Medication: All medication requests are handled over the phone. Clients who live in the Dallas, High Shoals, Alexis and Stanley area can receive help on certain prescription medications and some over the counter medications at Dallas Express Pharmacy only. Medication assistance is determined on a case to case basis. Please call and speak to a volunteer.

  • Christmas Assistance: Our Christmas assistance program is available for residents of Dallas, High Shoals, Alexis and Stanley only. The application process begins in November. A birth certificate and proof of guardianship is required for each child. If your child has received assistance in the past then you do not need to resubmit any government forms.
